The smoking gun
Two pages. A press release dated Meudon-la-Forêt, November 3, 2026. In it, Bouygues Telecom calls itself the "first telecom operator in France" to offer its services directly inside ChatGPT. That's their claim. I have no way to check it.
What the app does, according to the text:
- compare home and mobile phone plans;
- choose a phone (capacity, color) and its financing plan;
- check eligibility for fiber optic or other Box offers.
You talk to it in natural language, in your own words, or by voice. It is connected "in real time to Bouygues Telecom's secure APIs". An API (programming interface) is a counter where one piece of software asks another for information.
To find it: search for "Bouygues Telecom" in the list of apps, from the ChatGPT home page.
The bill, line by line
Access. Free accounts included, as we saw. No price is written for the app itself. The text doesn't say whether it exists in every country where ChatGPT is available.
The cart. According to the press release, everything happens inside ChatGPT until the last step, which sends you to the website, "for example" to the cart page. The text describes no purchase that ends inside ChatGPT.
The plans. I read the B&YOU page, the carrier's no-contract range, on November 3, 2026 around 17:50 UTC. Prices per month:
- 1 GB: €1.99 a month;
- 20 GB on 5G: €9.99 a month (€8.99 on 4G);
- 100 GB on 5G: €13.99 a month;
- 200 GB Voyage on 5G: €15.99 a month;
- B&YOU Pure fibre (home internet): €24.99 a month, no contract, plus €48 setup fee and €69 cancellation fee. For a first subscription, if your address is eligible.
Most of the fine print says: on the website, for a new line. The page also shows a 300 GB plan at €19.99 and 170 GB packs with a streaming or sports service, from €17.99 to €21.99.
On every mobile plan, add €1 for the SIM card, €1 activation on the first bill, and €5 if you cancel.
The deal with the box. At the top of the page, next to €15.99, there's a Pure fibre deal: €12.99 a month for a year, then €15.99. The plan isn't named there. The fine print describes a €3 a month discount for 12 months for a plan of 100 GB or more taken at the same time as the box, lost if you cancel the box. Only the 200 GB Voyage is at €15.99. I link it to this deal by cross-checking: the page doesn't spell it out.
A calculation of my own, not an invoice. At the prices read on November 3, 2026, the 200 GB Voyage alone, no box, 12 months, no cancellation: 12 × €15.99 = €191.88, plus €1 for the SIM and €1 for activation. Total: €193.88 for the first year. No phone, no going over the plan.
The price of phones and financing plans: I didn't look it up.
What we don't know yet
- Personal data. The press release says nothing about it: neither what ChatGPT passes to the carrier, nor what the carrier keeps.
- How many people use it. No usage figures in the press release.
- Whether ChatGPT shows the same prices as the website. I didn't test it: no account created, no conversation started.
