fal turns your animation into code, for the price of almost two videos

You describe an animation, fal gives you code instead of a video. Cute, but 10 seconds from text cost $3: almost two Kling 4.0 videos at 720p ($1.57 each), almost three MiniMax H3 Max on promo ($1.04); from your own video, $2. Nothing run: I read the pages and got the calculator out.

In short

  • Motion to Code outputs an animated web page (GSAP) or a looping GLSL shader, from text, an image or a video.
  • $0.30 per second when MiniMax H3 Max first makes a clip, $0.20 from your own video; 5 s minimum, 15 s maximum.
  • "A few KB instead of MBs", says fal. Its own example: a 5.7 KB page versus a 617 KB MP4.
Diagram with two cards, titled "10 seconds of animation on fal: video or code?". Blue "Video" card: Kling 4.0 at 720p $1.57; MiniMax H3 Max at 1080p $1.04 on promo (hatched bar), $1.60 after 10/31. Pink "Code (Motion to Code)" card: from text or an image $3.00; from your own video $2.00 (hatched bar). Below, size of fal's examples for 6 s: MP4 preview of the GSAP example 617 KB, GSAP page of the same example 5.7 KB (excluding library and font); GLSL example: 926 KB MP4 versus an 8.9 KB page. Final line: "A few KB instead of MBs of video" attributed to fal.

What came out

Two versions, same price, same inputs:

  • GSAP: an HTML page, SVG drawings animated by a single GSAP timeline.
  • GLSL: a Shadertoy-style shader, single pass, no textures, that loops seamlessly.

You give text (4,000 characters max), plus an optional 1 to 15 s video or an image; duration from 1 to 15 s, 6 by default.

Without a video, MiniMax H3 Max first animates your text or image, then that clip is rewritten as code. You get the code, the page, an MP4 preview and the MiniMax clip. fal warns: "Flat motion design works best". Flat motion design, then. Not your action movie.

The bill

A 6 s loop from text: $1.80, fal's example. As video: $0.94 with Kling 4.0 720p; $0.62 with H3 Max 1080p on promo, $0.96 after 10/31.

10 s: $3 from text, $2 from your video. Against:

  • Kling 4.0 720p: $1.57. Almost double.
  • H3 Max 1080p after the promo: $1.60. Almost double.
  • H3 Max 1080p on promo: $1.04. Almost triple.
  • Kling 4.0 1080p: $2.35. Only a $0.65 gap.

If you make 10: $30 versus $15.70 with Kling 4.0 720p, a $14.30 gap.

The minimum trap: at least 5 s billed, whatever the input. A 3 s loop costs $1.50 from text (not $0.90), $1 from your video (not $0.60).

The logic: from text, you pay for the MiniMax clip plus its rewrite. Code isn't a cheaper video, it's an editable version of one.

Horizontal bar chart titled "And if you make 10 animations of 10 seconds?". Motion to Code from text or an image: $30 (pink). Kling 4.0 at 1080p: $23.50 (blue). Motion to Code from your video: $20 (hatched pink). MiniMax H3 Max 1080p after 10/31: $16. Kling 4.0 at 720p: $15.70. MiniMax H3 Max 1080p on promo: $10.40 (hatched blue).

fal's examples, up close

fal publishes one example per version. I weighed them:

  • GSAP: a 5,662-byte page, versus a 617,426-byte MP4 preview at 1280 × 720. About 109 times less. If you store 1,000: 5.7 MB versus 617 MB.
  • GLSL: an 8,946-byte page, versus a 925,544-byte MP4 at 640 × 360. About 103 times less.
  • Time: 3 min 07 (GSAP), 4 min 56 (GLSL), two passes each.

When the sources contradict each other

  • "Self-contained": the page promises a standalone page. The GSAP example page loads GSAP and a font from the internet, outside the 5.7 KB. The GLSL page is self-sufficient.
  • "MBs of video": Motion to Code's MP4 previews weigh 0.62 and 0.93 MB; the example videos on the Kling 4.0 and H3 Max pages, 3.5 and 6.5 MB (duration not given). The MBs exist, just not in its own previews.

What independent measurements say

Artificial Analysis: nothing readable on Motion to Code as of 10/29/2026 at 08:39 UTC (JavaScript page). I can't tell you whether they measured it.

What we don't know yet

  • The output: not tested, and I didn't watch fal's videos, only their numbers. Don't make me angry with an "it works": show me.
  • The resolution of the MiniMax clip made internally: not stated.
  • Failures: if H3 Max fails to make the clip, you pay $0.20 per second instead of $0.30. What the code is then built on, and whether a complete failure is billed: not stated.
  • Beyond flat motion design: fal promises nothing.

Key terms

  • GSAP: a JavaScript library that animates elements of a web page; here, SVG drawings on a single timeline.
  • GLSL shader: a small program that computes the color of each pixel on the graphics card; GLSL is its language, Shadertoy the site where people share this kind of shader.
  • SVG: vector drawing, described by shapes rather than pixels.
