Kimi K3.1 Pro on Hugging Face: the weights are here

Looking for where to download Kimi K3.1 Pro? On Hugging Face, in the moonshotai/Kimi-K3.1-Pro repository: public, no access form, 112 files including 96 weight files, 1.56 TB in total. On October 25, I wrote here "nowhere, for now". Moonshot hit its date. Which leaves the real question: can your machine keep up?

Updated 04/11/2026: Kimi K3.1 Pro's weights are public on Hugging Face (spotted by our news watch on November 4 at 15:30 UTC, checked at 17:41 UTC); this article now tells you where to download them, how much they weigh and under which license.

In short

  • On November 4, 2026, our news watch spotted Kimi K3.1 Pro's weights, public on Moonshot AI's Hugging Face account: 112 files, 96 of them weight files, for 1,561,355,966,963 bytes, about 1.56 TB (check at 17:41 UTC).
  • That's Kimi K3's size give or take 357 MB, and vLLM's recipe for K3.1 Pro starts, as it did for K3, at 8 GPUs (GB300, B300 or MI355X).
  • The "Kimi K3.1-Pro" license copies K3's word for word, apart from the name: free to use, with two thresholds for very large services.

November 4: the grid fills up

For ten days, I kept watching the same address. On October 25, Kimi-K3.1-Pro returned "401"; on November 2 at 10:51 UTC, still nothing visible on Moonshot's account. On November 4 at 15:30 UTC, our news watch finally flagged the repository. At 17:41, I ran the check myself, at the source: public repository, no restrictions, and now the newest one on the moonshotai account. Moonshot had promised "Full model weights will be released by Nov 4, 2026": promise kept, the repository is public on November 4.

A small behind-the-scenes detail: the API dates the repository's creation, and its last modification, to November 2 at 04:13 UTC, a few hours before my November 2 check, when it did not show up in the account's public list. It doesn't say at what time it went public.

In practice, you'll find the 96 weight files, the model card, the license, the configuration and the tokenizer code. And if you start the download on a 1 gigabit per second connection, plan on about 3.5 hours non-stop to bring the 1.56 TB home (our calculation, at constant speed).

Same weight as K3, give or take 357 MB

On October 25, I assumed K3.1 Pro would weigh as much as its big brother, without being able to measure it. The numbers are in:

  • Kimi K3.1 Pro: 1,561,355,966,963 bytes (checked 04/11);
  • Kimi K3: 1,560,998,988,078 bytes (checked 25/10).

The gap is 356,978,885 bytes, about 357 MB, or 0.02% of K3.1 Pro's total size (our calculation). On your disk, it's the same bill: 1.56 TB. Hugging Face's API also counts, for K3.1 Pro, 178 million more parameters than for K3 in BF16 format (16 bits, so 2 bytes each): about 357 MB (our calculation). Otherwise, K3.1 Pro is K3 post-trained (refined after the fact), still with 2.8 trillion parameters, 104 billion of them active. The card lists the same format, MXFP4, which the model learns to cope with during training; vLLM's recipe specifies that "The checkpoint ships MXFP4 routed-expert weights; everything else is BF16". And the card offers no lighter version: the 1.56 TB already is the compact one.

What machine does it take?

K3.1 Pro's card recommends the same three engines as K3's: vLLM, SGLang and TokenSpeed, each with its own recipe. vLLM's gives its simplest baseline: a group of 8 GPUs, "either two GB300 trays or one B300 node"; on AMD, a single node of 8 MI355X. SGLang runs the model on a single MI355X node with 8 GPUs. That's exactly the threshold the recipes gave for K3:

Bar chart: smallest GPU setup cited for Kimi K3 by the vLLM and SGLang recipes. B300, GB300 and MI355X/MI350X: 8 GPUs; B200, GB200 and H200: 16 GPUs; H100: 32 GPUs; note for H200: 4 × 8 in one of the modes. Box: K3 repository weight, 1.56 TB, about 195 GB per GPU across 8 GPUs
White Rose Lab chart, 25/10/2026, based on the vLLM and SGLang recipes for Kimi K3 (engine documentation, not Moonshot's) and our Hugging Face check. "Smallest setup" is our reading: SGLang doesn't talk about a minimum. The chart is in French. For K3.1 Pro, vLLM's recipe also starts at 8 GPUs.

Across 8 GPUs, that's about 195 GB of weights per GPU, before working memory (our calculation: 1.56 TB divided by 8). In other words, your gaming PC, however souped-up, gets to watch the train go by.

No 8 GPUs lying around? Two shortcuts. Moonshot's API serves the model as kimi-k3.1-pro (code and prices in Using Kimi K3.1 Pro via API, in French). And Runpod (referral link) hosts it as a Public Endpoint (post updated November 4), along with the Highspeed variant, which Moonshot says "delivers 2-3× the speed of K3.1 Pro".

The license: free, with two thresholds

The repository is released under the "Kimi K3.1-Pro" license. I compared it line by line with K3's: only the title and the name to display change. It lets you use, modify, redistribute and sell, with two thresholds:

  • if your company gives third parties access to the model that they control themselves (via an API, for instance) and its revenue, affiliates included, exceeds $20 million over any 12 consecutive months, it must sign a separate agreement with Moonshot AI before any commercial use;
  • if a commercial product that uses the model has more than 100 million monthly active users, or more than $20 million in monthly revenue, it must prominently display "Kimi K3.1-Pro";
  • neither rule applies to internal use (nothing made available to third parties), nor to use through Moonshot's official products or its certified inference partners.

What we don't know yet

  • How K3.1 Pro's recipes perform once tuned: vLLM's baseline isn't yet.
  • Whether Moonshot will also release weights for the Highspeed variant: Kimi-K3.1-Pro-Highspeed still returned "401" on November 4.

Key terms

  • Weights: the settings the model has learned, stored in files you download.
  • Repository: the online folder that holds them.
  • MXFP4: a way of storing each weight in 4 bits, so it takes up less space.
  • Public Endpoint: at Runpod, a model that's already installed, which you call through an API with your key, without setting up a machine yourself.
