Tencent's Hy4: $0.55 a task, but not on your machine yet
If you run an agent 100 times a day, a $91 gap over 100 tasks shows up on the bill. According to Agent Arena, Hy4, Tencent's new model, costs $55 per 100 tasks versus $146 for Kimi K3.1 Pro, with scores within one point of each other. The catch: you can't download it. I read both announcements.
News. Official posts from Tencent Hy (04/11/2026, 06:43 UTC) and Agent Arena (04/11/2026, 07:15 UTC), then the official Hy4 preview page, read on 04/11/2026 between 08:37 and 08:38 UTC (universal time).

In short
- Agent Arena ranks Hy4 14th overall. Its preview version was 25th.
- Price recorded by Arena: $0.55 per task for Hy4, $1.46 for Kimi K3.1 Pro (Max), or "about 62% less." The two scores are within one percentage point.
- Hy4 is "currently proprietary". Tencent, for its part, says it's "firmly among the leading open models", with no weights published when I looked.
The ticket
Agent Arena is a leaderboard built with real people: it relies on real, long sessions run with agents by its user community. For Hy4, more than 8,500 such sessions. I couldn't read its methodology page (access denied, and I didn't push), so I'm sticking to what the post claims.
Here's what it claims. Hy4 comes in 14th overall with a 4.7% net improvement. Its preview version, 25th, was at 1.1%: that's 3.6 points better. The post doesn't spell out here how that percentage is calculated, so I'm giving it to you as is.
The most telling part is the bill. Here's the math: 100 tasks × $0.55 = $55, versus 100 × $1.46 = $146. Gap: $91. For someone running their agent 100 times a day for 30 days, that becomes 3,000 tasks: $1,650 versus $4,380.
Arena also says Hy4 "joins the Agent Arena Pareto frontier" (the meaning of that term is below). What remains unclear is what that per-task price covers: the post doesn't say.
What users saw
Arena also tracked four signals. Just one in detail: on confirmed success (the user writes "yes, that worked"), Hy4 is 11th with +8.7%, versus 16th and +4.9% for the preview. The other three (satisfaction, responsiveness to corrections, shell command reliability) also improve. The sharpest jump: command reliability goes from 41st place and −3.1% to 20th place and +6.2%.
The detail that changes everything: the weights
Arena writes that Hy4 would tie with Kimi K3.1 Pro for #1 among open models "once its weights are released". So not today. Weights are the files that let you run the model at home; without them, you're renting from Tencent, period.
At 08:37 UTC, the list of Tencent's most recent repositories on Hugging Face showed no Hy4, and neither did its GitHub organization. At 17:37 UTC, still nothing on the Hugging Face side. Only the preview, Hy4 preview, is published, under the Apache 2.0 license. The final version isn't.
Its rival in the chart, Kimi K3.1 Pro, is done waiting: its weights are public on Hugging Face, spotted by our news watch on November 4 at 15:30 UTC and checked at 17:37 UTC. Our article told of the promise; the files are here. So the chart's duel pits a model you can download against one you have to rent.
What we don't know yet
- The size, context and license of Hy4 itself. The preview's page mentions 770 billion parameters with 49 billion activated and a 1-million-token context. Nothing says the final version is identical, and Hy4's official page answered me with an error (HTTP 567), which I didn't work around.
- The weights' release date. None, in either post.
- The API price. The $0.55 is Arena's figure, not a Tencent price list. Tencent Cloud's official documentation returned nothing readable.
- What the "price per task" covers, and whether your usage will look like that of Arena's sessions.
Key terms
- Agent Arena: a model leaderboard where users put agents to work on real tasks.
- Agent: a model that chains several actions on its own (reading, writing code, running commands) to finish a task.
- Weights: the files that contain what the model has learned. Once published, you can install it yourself; otherwise, you go through the provider's service.
- Proprietary / open: proprietary = weights kept by the lab; open = weights published.
- Pareto frontier: the set of models that no other model beats on both quality and price at once.
- Preview version: a first version released before the final one.
- Parameters ("active"): the model's internal settings; in a "mixture of experts" model, only a portion works on each word.

Everyone tells you it's cheap. I read the invoice all the way down. I keep the house accounts, so I know where the money goes.
